About

I have a master's degree in psychiatric nursing as well as a master's degree in psychology. I welcome people from all walks of life, including people of any ethnicity, race, gender, or sexual preference, and religious or spiritual practice. I am committed to providing a collaborative and accepting atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in inpatient, outpatient, and residential settings. I also have a background working in intensive eating disorder programs and TMS programs. I have experience providing psychiatric assessment, medication management, and psychotherapy. I am comfortable treating a range of psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, OCD, personality disorders, eating disorders, and ADHD.

I studied existential phenomenological (EP) psychology while earning my first master's degree. After I graduated, I learned to incorporate cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness approaches. I then decided to train as a psychiatric nurse practitioner to incorporate a medical perspective and to be able to provide psychiatric medications.

I tend to be practical rather than committed to one perspective or approach. This means that rather than try to put you in a particular mold, we will work together to find what works best for you. Our work together can be creative and spontaneous or structured, depending on your needs or goals. I believe that psychology and psychiatry should focus not only on mental illness but how we can help inspire our patients to achieve their full potential.

Boyd works out of our Old Town and Reston offices.

Frequently asked

I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, personality disorders, eating disorders, and other psychiatric conditions. I believe treatment should be individualized and based on each person's unique needs, goals, and life experiences.
I take a practical, collaborative approach rather than relying on a single therapy style or treatment philosophy. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness techniques, and other evidence-based approaches alongside medication management when appropriate. Together, we'll develop a treatment plan that works best for you—not one that forces you into a predetermined approach.
During your first appointment, we'll take time to discuss your current concerns, mental health history, medical history, previous treatments, and your goals for care. If medication may be beneficial, we'll review your options together, including the potential benefits and side effects. My goal is to ensure you feel informed, involved, and comfortable as we create a personalized treatment plan that fits your needs.
I believe the best outcomes happen when treatment is a partnership. I strive to create a welcoming, respectful environment where every patient feels heard and valued, regardless of their background or life experiences. Together, we'll discuss your goals, explore treatment options, and make decisions collaboratively so your care reflects what's most important to you. My goal is not only to reduce symptoms but also to help you build a healthier, more fulfilling life and reach your full potential.
Yes, I offer both in-person appointments at our Reston and Old Town Alexandria Offices, as well as telehealth for Virginia and Maryland.
