They provide support and solutions for those who love and care for them by developing options and creating opportunities that enable their consumers to learn, live productively, work in rewarding jobs, and value themselves and their roles in society. The organization was founded in the 1970s by a small group of parents and friends on the southeast side of Chicago who recognized the need for engagement for family members with IDDs. Today, South Chicago Parents and Friends assists over 500 individuals and their families in the south and southeast sides of Chicago and its southern suburbs. They are guided by a Board of Directors comprised of dedicated volunteers and are CARF Accredited, demonstrating their commitment to improving efficiency, fiscal health, and service delivery.
