Knoxville-Knox County Head Start/Early Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program for low-income children and their families. We provide a variety of services that actively encourage and promote social, emotional, intellectual (school readiness skills), physical growth, and development for children, including those with special needs. We foster good health with well-child checks and dental exams, current immunizations, nutrition, and lead risk assessments. We also emphasize parent involvement in their child’s education and development, and provide supportive services like social services, mental health and disability services, and transportation. Additionally, Head Start receives USDA reimbursement and nutritious meals are provided based on the hours the child attends the center.
