Eastern Illinois Area Special Education is a joint agreement that serves the educational needs of children with disabilities, ages 3 through 21, residing in 28 school districts across eight counties in Illinois. With a central office located on Park Drive between Charleston and Mattoon, the organization employs over 600 special education personnel and serves more than 4,000 exceptional children. Founded in 1962, EIASE is the largest geographic special education unit in Illinois, covering approximately 4,000 square miles and ranking third in the state for the total number of children with disabilities served.
