About
Founded in 1992, SAIL serves individuals with disabilities, their families, and communities in Macon, Moultrie, Shelby, Coles, Clark, and Cumberland counties. The organization offers various services, including advocacy, independent living skills development, information and referral, peer counseling, and transition services. SAIL's mission is to promote independent living for all people with disabilities by providing a continuum of services and promoting personal dignity. With funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Illinois Department of Human Services, and local fundraising projects, SAIL continues to serve the community through its main office in Decatur and satellite offices in Shelbyville and Charleston. SAIL's services are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and can be accessed by calling the main office in Decatur or visiting one of the satellite offices.

SAIL maintains an electronic library of resources useful to independent living and researches information to provide the most current accurate referrals.
Peer Counseling
SAIL recommends board, staff, volunteers, and consumers as a knowledgeable resource when an individual is adjusting to living with a disability.
Transition
SAIL services focus on both youth with disabilities preparing for independent living and individuals with disabilities living in nursing facilities as they transition to living independently in the community.
