California State Council on Developmental Disabilities

The California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is an independent state agency established by state and federal law to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families receive the services and supports they need. They work to achieve a person-centered and family-based system of individualized services, supports, and other assistance. SCDD disrupts systems to make them work better for Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. They challenge barriers, improve policies, and create opportunities so every person can live, work, and thrive in their own community. Their services and support are free, so cost is never a barrier to access. They work throughout California, with thousands of activities and projects, including self-determination information and resources, Senate Bill (SB) 639, SCDD events and trainings, and a statewide self-advocacy network. SCDD is always looking for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) – and their family members – to provide leadership and input about important supports, services, and programs. They have Regional Advisory Committees (RAC), Local Self-Determination Advisory Committees (Local SDAC), and other opportunities for community involvement.
