Sonya Kirven

Hi! My name is Sonya Kirven. I am Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board-Certified Counselor. I have 8 years’ experience in counseling and 15 years’ experience serving a diverse group of young adults, adults, and families involved with child protective services. I am skilled in supporting individuals with mental health concerns such as Depression, Anxiety, financial and career concerns, and interpersonal relationships. My clinical approach is integrative however, grounded in CBT. In addition to CBT, I utilize Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Building the therapeutic relationship in a judgment free space is key in achieving insight and growth. Having worked in the helping field for more than 15 years, I have been a part of and observed how intervention, even the smallest amount, can benefit in such an enormous way. I believe in a strength-based, Person-Centered approach throughout therapy. I am empathetic and compassionate here to offer support and guidance. As you lead the way, together we will work towards your therapeutic goals. Growing up in a family that is active in the field, my interests in counseling peeked at a very young age. I would say about 11 years old. I remember being enthralled in my Psychology and Sociology classes in high school. From there my journey began. Along that journey I have learned therapy offers a place where different thoughts, ideas and strategies can be shared. Trial and error are a part of the voyage. If one way doesn’t work let’s try another. YOU CAN DO IT. The end result is what matters!
