About Derek Bakay

I am a licensed mental health counselor in New York and a certified rehabilitation counselor with over 20 years of professional work experience as a counselor in a variety of clinical settings. I have helped clients with depression, stress and anxiety, disability adjustment issues, career and academic difficulties, & coping with life changes. My therapy style is warm, interactive and thorough. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion and don’t believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach is holistic with elements of humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-based therapy. I am interested in you as a person and look forward to tailoring our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs and goals. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.
