He has taught and consulted on mental health, trauma, psychosis, medications, domestic violence, conflict resolution, spirituality, and organizational development in more than 30 countries. Hall's work focuses especially on trauma, oppression, and extreme states of consciousness that get diagnosed as psychosis. He is a PhD Candidate at Maastricht University Medical Center – School for Mental Health and Neuroscience, supervised by Dr. Jim van Os. Hall's work as a therapist and group facilitator is centered on psychiatric medications and alternatives. He also has extensive background in community organizing and organizational development, and sees 'mental health' as a community and social issue. Hall is a lifelong adherent of nonviolence as a way of life and path for social change. He has consulted and presented for more than 50 organizations in over 30 countries, and has been widely interviewed and featured in the media for his advocacy efforts around human rights in mental health care. Hall's own experiences of recovery from a schizophrenia diagnosis and learning to live with madness have inspired him to develop different understandings based in human connection and real caring. He holds a Diploma and Masters Degree in Process Work from the Process Work Institute, and has studied Open Dialogue with Jaakko Seikkula and colleagues, WRAP facilitators' training, certification in NADA protocol auricular acupuncture, and the Integral Counseling program at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Hall is a mental health abolitionist and strongly believes we have the means to replace force and control with love and understanding. He teaches what he has learned and uses his experience to help guide people to their own discoveries of healing, through his vocation as a counselor, his writing, his trainings, through student supervision and through consulting with organizations. Will Hall Counseling and Consulting is located in Oakland, CA, and offers counseling, consulting, and training services. Hall's work is centered on helping individuals, couples, and families navigate trauma, oppression, and extreme states of consciousness, and to develop new understandings of mental health based on human connection and real caring.
