The Washington Assistive Technology Act Program (WATAP) helps people of all ages across WA State find accessible technology solutions for everyday tasks. Through our device demonstration and short term lending programs, individuals, their families and support networks can try out devices before buying them. We partner with community based organizations that offer alternative ways for people to acquire the assistive technology they need, such as low interest financial loans and redistribution of gently used devices. Additionally, WATAP provides professional training on AT devices and service delivery, and technical assistance to agencies developing AT programs or services. We also work to raise public awareness of assistive technology options to live, learn, work, and play with greater independence. WATAP is located at the University of Washington Center for Technology and Disability Studies (UWCTDS), within the Center for Human Development and Disability (CHDD), and supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living, and other funding sources.
