UCLA Center for Autism Research and Treatment (CART), led by Daniel Geschwind, MD, PhD and Susan Bookheimer, PhD, is a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists that combine clinical, research, and treatment programs to provide comprehensive care for individuals with ASD. CART scientists conduct innovative scientific investigations to uncover the underlying causes of ASD, identify markers of risk and prognosis, and advance the science of ASD treatments. The UCLA Child and Adult Neurodevelopmental (CAN) and Care and Research in Neurogenetics (CARING) Clinics, led by James McCracken, MD and Shafali Spurling Jeste, MD, provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and pioneering treatment. CART-affiliated treatment programs, such as KidsConnect and PEERS®, provide social skills training. The CAN REACH Training Program, founded by Stephanny Freeman, PhD and Tanya Paparella, PhD, provides cutting edge information on ASD. CART also works with Los Angeles communities that are underserved and under resourced to bring educational opportunities and interventions to the community. CART clinicians and investigators are engaged with the greater Los Angeles autism community through educational lectures, community outreach events, a newsletter, and a resource database. CART is dedicated to providing hope to affected families and developing the ASD clinicians of the future.
