Special Olympics Washington is a organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. They aim to be a catalyst for inclusion, empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be valued on and off the playing field. Special Olympics Washington welcomes persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, regardless of ability level, to participate in sports and other programs offered by them. Individuals are eligible for training and competition at age eight and there is no upper age limit. Thousands of athletes and Unified partners take part in Special Olympics Washington activities.
