Founded in 1974, Special Olympics Alaska – Tanana Valley is dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout Alaska. We strive to provide meaningful and transformative experiences through sport, enabling athletes to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy and friendship. Our mission is to provide quality sports training and competition opportunities in a safe and inclusive environment for people with intellectual disabilities to experience joy, build self-confidence and foster meaningful relationships. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the rewards of physical activity and competition.
