The center provides a variety of services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, based on the client's individual needs and intended to maximize their independence, full potential, and quality of life. Any San Diego or Imperial County resident believed to have a developmental disability may apply for services. The San Diego Regional Center serves over 48,000 individuals and their families in San Diego and Imperial counties with a staff of 1,000 and a combined budget of $1.2 billion annually. They offer services such as Early Start Service Coordination, Coordinated Family Support, Clinical Services, Paid Internships, Self-Determination Program, and more. Their mission is to serve and empower persons with developmental disabilities and their families to achieve their goals with community partners.
