He holds a Limited Master's of Social Work License in the State of Michigan. Nicholas specializes in working with clients who experience anxiety, eating disorders, or disordered eating, body image disturbances, depression, major life transitions, grief, loss, and divorce. His approach to therapy is gender-affirming, humanistic, and systems-oriented, focusing on understanding each client as an individual with unique identities, histories, values, fears, aspirations, complexities, and challenges. He employs anti-racist, Health at Every Size (HAES), feminist, and queer frameworks in his therapy and social work practices. Nicholas incorporates various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing (MI), and emotionally-focused therapy, into his practice. Prior to becoming a social worker, Nicholas completed his PhD in French at the University of Michigan, where he researched the influence of video games and play on interpretations of medieval French texts. This interest in play informs his therapeutic philosophy, encouraging clients to explore boundaries, expectations, and emotions in a creative and engaging way.
