Introducing Melissa B Nelson, MD, a board-certified pediatrician from Glen Allen, Virginia. Originally from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, she earned her Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech, her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University, and completed her residency training at Cornell University Medical Center at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. With additional fellowship training in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics from the Rose F. Kennedy Center at Albert Einstein University, she joined the faculty of New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery before moving to Richmond in 2004 and joining Pediatric Associates of Richmond. Dr. Nelson has served as the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics of Bon Secours – St. Mary’s Hospital, the Medical College of Virginia’s Alumni Board of Directors, the ChildSavers board and the PACKids board. Additionally, she is a member of Virginia Tech’s Board of Visitors and serves on the Governor’s PANDAS/PANS Advisory Council. Her dedication and efforts to establish an independent children’s hospital in Richmond earned her one of the YWCA’s 2015 Outstanding Women Awards, as well as recognition in Richmond Magazine’s annual Top Docs issue (2010, 2013, 2016 – 2020). Dr. Nelson is passionate about general pediatrics and developmental and behavioral pediatrics. She and her husband, Kinloch Nelson, enjoy spending time with their three children.
