About
With a history dating back to 1993, the Family Care Councils aim to educate and advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Florida. They partner with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities to bring quality services to individuals with dignity and choice. The organization has 15 Local Family Care Councils across the state, each composed of Governor-appointed volunteers dedicated to mentoring families, educating legislators, and advocating for positive change. Family Care Council members include individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as parents, siblings, grandparents, and guardians of those eligible for APD services. They work together to provide community forums, events, and conferences to benefit individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
