Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF), founded in 1979, is a leading national civil rights law and policy center directed by individuals with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities. Their mission is to advance the civil and human rights of people with disabilities through legal advocacy, training, education, and public policy and legislative development. DREDF works to create a just world where all people, with and without disabilities, live full, joyful, pleasurable lives free of discrimination and oppression. They provide training and education to people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities about their rights under state and federal disability rights laws, and educate lawyers, service providers, government officials, and many others about disability civil rights laws and policies. DREDF is a Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) funded by the U.S. Department of Education, serving families of children and young adults from birth to age 26 with all disabilities. Their education advocates help families obtain appropriate education and services for their children with disabilities, work to improve education results for all children, train and inform parents and professionals on various topics, resolve problems between families and schools or other agencies, and connect children with disabilities to community resources that address their needs.
