At Children of the Sea, also known as Keiki Kai in Hawaiian, our mission is to build awareness and self-confidence in the water through our Water Safe Program. Founded in 1982 by Lynne Zavrski, our school has provided private lessons and swimming instruction in city and county pools in and around Oahu. After bringing her knowledge and methods to the mainland, Lynne founded and built our state-of-the art facility in Portland. Our approach to teaching is based on the individualized learning pace of each child, with encouragement, positive reinforcement, and practice, our students develop life-saving water skills while having fun. Here at Children of the Sea, we take pride in turning focus from basic instinctive responses into life-saving water skills and we strive to ensure each child learns to love and respect the water.
