They provide access to sports and recreation programming for thousands of underserved youth in central Iowa with financial, physical, cognitive, emotional, or chronic health care barriers to play. Their mission empowers them to decrease the participation gap in sports and recreation that affects underprivileged youth not just physically, but also on a social, mental and developmental level. Can Play serves approximately 9,000 participants a year through their Victory, Courage, H.E.R.S., licensing and other community programs. They offer adapted recreational activities for those living with special needs and chronic health issues, and provide a barrier-free, low-cost sports program empowering girls ages 6–14 to build confidence, develop skills, and belong through recreational sports play. Their licensed adapted programs are built so children across the nation are able to have barriers removed to their favorite sports.
