The California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is an independent state agency established by state and federal law to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families receive the services and supports they need. SCDD works to achieve a person-centered and family-based system of individualized services, supports, and other assistance. They disrupt systems to make them work better for Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Guided by their core values of self-determination, independence, productivity, integration, inclusion, advocacy, protection, and quality of life, SCDD challenges barriers, improves policies, and creates opportunities so every person can live, work, and thrive in their own community. Their services and support are free, so cost is never a barrier to access. In 2024 alone, their work reached over 9.3 million Californians.
