The California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is an independent state agency established by state and federal law to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families receive the services and supports they need. The SCDD works to achieve a person-centered and family-based system of individualized services, supports, and other assistance. They disrupt systems to make them work better for Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, guided by core values of self-determination, independence, productivity, integration, inclusion, advocacy, protection, and quality of life. Their services and support are free, so cost is never a barrier to access. In 2024 alone, their work reached over 9.3 million Californians, providing training, direct problem-solving assistance, and partnerships with community organizations to expand access to housing, education, employment, and safety.
