Black Therapist & Company, LLC creates equity in all things related to the health and wellness for all with unique expertise for those in the Black, Latino/a/x, Indigenous, and POC communities. Founded by Dr. Rosemarie Hemmings, a clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience, the practice prioritizes service populations that reflect Dr. Hemmings' lived experiences as a Black woman. They take an intersectional approach, honoring clients' lived experiences without judgment and partnering with them in co-developing services/goals in alignment with their personal values and cultural practices. Black Therapist & Company offers a range of services, including mental health individual counseling, couples counseling, group counseling, peer support, case management, training, and clinical supervision for pre-licensed social workers. They also provide consultation for organizations working to undo Native erasure and anti-Blackness, by dismantling white supremacy and advancing racial justice. The practice serves individuals and communities throughout Oregon, Washington, Texas, and New York, utilizing HIPPA-compliant technology. Their areas of specialization include generational trauma, BIPOC-specific issues, parenting, relationship issues, family conflicts, depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, coping skills, self-esteem, and life transitions. They employ various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive behavior therapy, trauma-focused cognitive therapy, culturally sensitive therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and more. Black Therapist & Company accepts a variety of insurance plans, including BlueCross and BlueShield, CareOregon, Cascade Centers EAP, Kaiser (out-of-network), Medicaid, Moda Health, Oregon Health Plan (OHP), PacificSource, and more. They also offer a sliding scale for self-pay clients. The practice is committed to creating equitable access to mental health services and is dedicated to normalizing rather than pathologizing individuals and communities.
