About
Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, the organization has grown from one original chapter to over 4,000 chapters worldwide, positively impacting the lives of over 1.5 million people with and without IDD. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 states and in nearly 50 countries around the world. The organization's mission is to end the social, physical, and economic isolation of people with IDD, and to create a world where people with IDD have the same opportunities as everyone else. With a focus on friendship, jobs, leadership development, and inclusive living, Best Buddies provides a range of programs and services to support individuals with IDD and their families. The organization is headquartered in Miami, Florida, and has a presence in Hollywood, FL, where they serve the local community. Best Buddies' work is centered around creating a more inclusive and accepting society, where people with IDD can thrive and reach their full potential.
