About
The Center for Anxiety & Chronic Worry, located in Incline Village, NV, treats individuals residing in Incline Village, Sparks, Reno, Carson City, Fallon, and the surrounding geographic areas. The Center's primary therapeutic goal is to create a new way of thinking concerning those individuals who are needing help with managing their anxiety. This is achieved by encouraging people to change the manner in which they interpret their feelings of anxious arousal. Therapeutic goals also involve helping people learn how to move toward, not avoid, a reasonable level of risk, uncertainty, and doubt, regarding stressful life situations. The objective is not to handle situations perfectly, but simply to handle them effectively, resulting in a greater sense of control and self-confidence. Dr. Barry Barmann, a licensed clinical psychologist, assists his patients in developing 'Roots & Wings' to help them 'think about how they think' and 'soar beyond their typical way of appraising everyday life events'. This approach enables patients to learn to incorporate a new way of viewing not simply what happens to them, but instead, how they react to what happens to them. Dr. Barmann's treatment strategies, based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), involve helping patients to become more aware of and change their perceptions and typical interpretations of daily events, which create behavioral or emotional discomfort. He also uses Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) strategies to help patients overcome their anxiety disorders. Dr. Barmann's approach is tailored to each patient's unique needs, and he works with individuals to develop a new relationship with their anxiety, one that is no longer controlling and abusive. By teaching patients to think differently about their anxiety and to approach situations with a new perspective, Dr. Barmann helps them to regain control and confidence in their lives.
