Achieve Tahoe was founded in 1967 by Jim Winthers, a World War II Veteran of the 10th Mountain Division and Director of the Soda Springs Ski School. He brought together Vietnam Veterans with disabilities, who taught themselves how to ski and create adaptive equipment to do so. We are proud to be the founding chapter of MoveUnited (formerly Disabled Sports USA) and our employees and volunteers were pioneers in the adaptive sports world. At Achieve Tahoe, we provide year-round outdoor recreation activities for people with cognitive, sensory and physical disabilities. Our focus is on health, confidence and independence, so that our participants have long-lasting, positive experiences that they can carry into other areas of their lives.
