At The Hearing and Speech Agency, we understand that it can be difficult to determine if your child needs speech therapy. If your child is autistic, speech therapy is almost always recommended since many people with autism struggle with social communication. Even if your child is very verbal, they may need to work on communication skills such as responding to questions, changing conversation topics, using gestures, and understanding body language. Early intervention for autistic children often includes speech therapy as it is important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible. If your child is struggling with speaking, they may be very quiet, only say a few words, or not speak at all.
