Health Law Advocates Incorporated (HLA) is a 501(c)(3) public interest law firm dedicated to providing pro bono legal assistance to low-income Massachusetts residents struggling to access or pay for quality medical services. We are committed to ensuring universal access to health care in our state, especially for those who are most vulnerable due to factors such as race, gender, disability, age, or location. In partnership with the organization Health Care For All, HLA combines legal expertise with grassroots action and policy reform to advance the statewide movement for universal health care access. Our services include free legal help for income-eligible Massachusetts residents facing difficulty accessing health care or health insurance, as well as assistance with unaffordable medical debt. We also specialize in challenging denied health insurance enrollments, fighting denials of coverage for specific services, protecting patients from illegal medical billing and collection practices, and obtaining access to health care through state agencies and school systems, especially for children.
