At Special Olympics New York – New York City, our mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities, such as mental retardation. We strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment for our athletes, offering them the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, fellow Special Olympics athletes, and the local community. Our goal is to give individuals with intellectual disabilities the chance to learn, grow, and succeed through the power of sport.
